Press release about Mārtiņš Sesks / Renārs Francis in Ralljis Sarma 2023
The rally crew Mārtiņš Sesks / Renārs Francis, supported by Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT), held the first competition of the 2023 season on February 11. In the overall standings of the “Sarma” rally, the athletes finished second overall, but they were solid leaders in the LRC3 standings.
On the snowy and rapidly melting roads of Gulbene, Mārtiņš Sesks started with the first number in the “Škoda Fabia Rally2-Kit (R4 Litus)” prepared by the Proracing Rally Team and was engaged in cleaning the road for the later starters. After the first three stages, Sesks took a commanding lead in the LRC3 class and was third overall behind the more powerful LRC5 class Mitsubishi Lancer Evo’s driven by T.Korge and E.Blums. After winning the fourth stage, Latvian made a mistake and slipped in the fifth. Sesks finished the sixth-final stage in the second position.
Mārtiņš Sesks: “This was a very useful experience for training and the beginning of the season. It was complicated and interesting. The conditions were what we did not expect – a real spring rally with warm weather and very changeable conditions. If after the service it seemed that the surface was clear, then when driving SS5 we had a spin and realized that everything is melting even more and is even more slippery. As soon as we were off even for a little from the ideal line, the result suffered greatly”.
From the third place won in the overall standings of the rally, the Sesks/Francis crew moved up to second place when at the end of the event, the judges disqualified the Emil Blum/Ralph Lipstoks crew due to technical inconsistencies. Timmu Korge/Arro Vahtra from Estonia won the opening event of the Latvian Rally Championship season.
